Awesome local blacksmith Alex Pole makes some incredible cookware in his forge 20 mins away from us in rural Dorset.
His Heritage Saute Skillet and Lid promises seriously old school cooking and is perfect for any keen chef. Spun carbon steel base with forged stainless steel handles and copper rivets.
The classic sauté pan, from the French verb meaning "to jump" (sauter), has a wide, flat bottom and relatively high sides . The difference in shape from a standard frying pan affects several factors when cooking - the base surface area is slightly less but the overall volume (depth) is much greater. The weight is increased which reduces tossing ability but adds heat retention and the dept will allow for more liquid with increased evaporation.
Ideal to sauté meat & vegetables, as well as shallow frying and braising. Naturally non-stick properties with no chemical coating, just well-seasoned steel. Quick to heat up with superb uniform heat distribution for better cooking.
TIP : All Alex's pans and skillets are pre-seasoned with rapeseed oil and baked to give a sealed finish- This makes our pans ready-to-use out of the box. Colours may vary subtly between pans.
NOTE : The spinning process makes the pans very smooth, and naturally non-stick, but they do require frequent re-seasoning to maintain the surface. The more the pan is used the better it will perform.
